For many migraine sufferers, essential oils have been found helpful to reduce migraine pain. When using essential oils, always dilute them in a carrier oil. Never apply them directly on your skin. Before using essential oils as a treatment, be sure to do a small patch test on your skin to make sure it’s ok for you. Also, always seek advice from your medical professional before trying any new treatments.

Suggested Combinations

Start with a simple combination. Lavender and Peppermint oils create a nice combination, when diluted in a carrier oil.  Add 5-10 drops essential oils to 1 tsp carrier oil. Rub on the temples, neck, wrists, bottom of feet.  Put a little in the palm of your hands. Rub palms together. Then cup palms over nose and mouth and inhale.

Essential Oils and Carrier Oils

Commonly used essential oils for headaches include Lavender, Peppermint, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Roman Chamomile, Rosemary, or Sandalwood.

Carrier oil examples include coconut, avocado, almond, or jojoba. Jojoba, which isn’t actually an oil, has a longer shelf life. That is, it doesn’t go rancid like other oils.

Combining Natural Remedies

Combining essential oil treatments with other techniques for reducing migraines helps many who suffer from migraine pain. Conquering migraines generally takes a combination of treatments.

Other treatments include eating foods that fight pain and lower inflammation. Practicing stress reduction and mindfulness. Getting regular mild exercise (strenuous can lead to inflammation). Being outdoors in nature. Combining these therapies with essential oils can create a routine for wellbeing.
